System Ekofungi’s project 21st Century Food has officially commenced. We are testing the use of various additives for increasing the quality aspects of mushrooms: increasing micronutritional content, and diminishing likelihood of pesticide residues and harmful concentrations of heavy metals. This innovation will enhance the functional role of mushrooms in a good diet. Also, the project is exploring completely replacing chemical protection agents with botanicals.

Research has begun with first additive trials in Ekofungi’s cultivation tunnels.

The project is being realized with support from the Innovation Fund in Serbia (who are financed by IPA funds and administrated by the World Bank), and in cooperation with Institute for Biological Research Sinisa Stankovic from the University of Belgrade.
